KAPS conducted a major paediatric surgical outreach at Nakuru County Teaching and Referral Hospital from 24–27 October 2022. A team of 56 specialists and support staff delivered 150 major surgeries for children from underserved communities. The camp reduced the county’s surgical backlog and strengthened local capacity through hands-on mentorship of paediatric surgery trainees and registrars. The initiative was supported by multiple partners, including the County Government of Nakuru, Rotary Club of Nakuru, Lions Club Nakuru, KNH, KUTRRH and Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital.
The objective of the camp was to provide necessary surgical interventions to children in need, especially those from low-income backgrounds and those in the Dadaab refugee camp who lack access to specialized surgical care.
