The original battery inside is likely dead, so a brand new battery will be included.Here are the steps to take to link the Pokewalker to your DS:- Load Heart Gold or Soul Silver on your DS- On the main menu of the game select connect to Pokewalker- Once you get to the screen that mentions go for a stroll, hold down L + down + X at the same time-You will be asked if you want to erase all Pokewalker data - Select Yes(make sure the red side of walker is pointed at the DS cart)-You are now ready to link the Pokewalker. Follow the prompts on DSscreen to connect to the Pokewalker. Press the middle button on thePokewalker and select connect to walker from the menu. Make sure the redside of the Pokewalker is facing the DS cart while connecting.
