Antique Okinawa Shisa Foo Dogs
This is a pair of 1950’s Okinawan Japanese Shisa, also sometimes known as Fu Dogs or Foo Dogs. They are guardian lions, originating in Chinese Buddhism. They are believed to ward off evil, offer protection, and bring good fortune and prosperity. They are commonly placed on either side of a home/palace entrance. But they can also be used for decorative purposes, and make beautiful bookends. This pair are ceramic, with brown, green, and blue glaze. They are in great condition!
